Water contact angle test

We use different analytical instruments to measure and analyze the contact angle of different liquids on dissimilar materials to help us improve the hydrophobicity of our products. The excellent hydrophobic performance allows the liquid to slide off the surface with dirt to achieve a self-cleaning effect.

Quality is reduced when contaminants are present. 

Materials are selected based on appearance, but often their vulnerability to the environment is disregarded. Surfaces can absorb contaminants such as water, oils, silicone, grease, debris, or anything else that might be in the surroundings. 

These contaminants are detrimental to the quality of a variety of materials. Leather, for instance, is highly valued for its durability and flexibility, although its quality may deteriorate over time. It is prone to dry out, get stained, and change its original color. Glass is also a widely used material common in window panes, tableware, and optics. Several contaminants deteriorate the visibility of glass, including dirt, minerals, and droppings.

Here’s a quick breakdown on how the process works

Wet-out energy refers to the ease with which something spreads out across a surface. In order to determine the wet-out energy a surface has, we need to measure it. As a result, we perform a SGS certified water contact angle test. An angle is created between the edge of a water droplet and a surface when placed on it, forming a contact angle. 

Through analytical equipment including high-definition optical lenses Choose Nanotech measures the contact angle of different liquids on different materials such as bulk materials, fibre material, and fabrics. Our products are rigorously tested both in-house and in third-party laboratories.

What makes this feature so important?

Protective coatings applied on surfaces boost the performance of many consumer goods. Water and other contaminants bead up, resulting in superior hydrophobicity and self-cleaning properties. Leather can maintain a clean aspect longer and glass repels dirt and harmful contaminants away. 

In order to improve our products, we find the information obtained from the water contact angle test to be valuable. Our goal is to measure a material’s quality before and after it undergoes an adhesive process, such as a protective coating.
